Asaduddin Owaisi is a senior politician and the President of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). He is a four-term Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from the Hyderabad constituency. Owaisi did BA from Osmania University, Hyderabad, and studied Law at Lincoln's Inn, London. His grandfather, Abdul Wahed Owaisi, founded the AIMIM, a successor of the banned MIM, in 1957. His father, Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, took over in 1976 as the AIMIM President and represented Hyderabad in Lok Sabha from 1984 till 2004 when the baton passed into the hands of Owaisi. He was a Member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from 1994-2004, from the Charminar constituency. He extended support to the UPA govt in the state and at the Centre during 2008-12 after the Left withdrew support over the Indo-US nuclear deal. Earlier, a regional party from Hyderabad, Owaisi, has been aiming for Dalit-Muslim consolidation and has increased AIMIM's footprint nationally, winning seats in Assemblies of other states like Bihar and Maharashtra. He has worked on various Parliamentary Committees such as those on Social Justice and Empowerment, Defence, and Ethics, among others.
